Remote Controlling Your Computer
Steps of Remote Login
Using the following steps of remote login, you can access to your office computer as long as you have internet connection. Though both Internet Explore and Firefox will work, Internet Explorer is used here to demo the process.
- Go to https://www.ois.outreach.vt.edu/ and log in using the PID and password assigned to you by the OIS team. If you do not have one, please contact OIS at ois@exchange.vt.edu.
If you see a window popping up asking for accepting a certificate, select the option to accept it permanently.

- You might see a slightly different layout than the following image after you have logged in. first thing first: please remember to change your logon password.

- Next, look for a Remote Control link on the menu to start remote login process. Click “Desktop” and then click “Connect”. If any of the three options is checked, please uncheck.

- After you click “Connect”, a new window will show up. If this is your first time accessing the webpage, you will be asked to install the remote control software. On top of the browser you will see a message, saying that you need to run the add-on in order to remotely log in. Right click on the message bar and then select “Run ActiveX Control.”

Then, click the “Run” button to run the ActiveX control.

- Now, you will be asked whether to install the remote login software. Select “Install.”

If you have your Windows Firewall turned on, you will see another message that asks you whether to block this program. Select “Unblock.”

- Finally, a remote control window pops up and you will see your office computer’s desktop. Now you can do whatever you want. Scroll to see the entire desktop.
