Configuring Outlook Passwords In Vista or Windows 7
Outlook periodically wants to ask for a password when starting up. Even if you check the box telling Outlook to save the password, it may continue to ask for it. In order to reduce the number of times Outlook , first open up Control Panel -> User Accounts and then select “Manage your network passwords” ("Manage Your Credentials" in Windows 7). You will then click Add, enter in the exchange server address, hokies\userid, and exchange password (have user type in the password). Repeat these steps for each of the following addresses:
- autodiscover.exchange.vt.edu
- Duroc.w2k.vt.edu
- Elessar.cc.w2k.vt.edu
- Exchange.vt.edu
- Fangorn.cc.w2k.vt.edu
- Fili.cc.w2k.vt.edu
- Freeman.w2k.vt.edu
- Gandalf.cc.w2k.vt.edu
- Mirkwood.cc.w2k.vt.edu
- Moria.cc.w2k.vt.edu
- Rivendell.cc.w2k.vt.edu
- Saruman.cc.vt.edu
- threedog.w2k.vt.edu
- weboutlook.vt.edu
Even after entering all of these in, you may still find that you are being randomly asked for a password (this is being experienced campus wide). During the months of July, August, September, and October 2009, the university is moving user accounts from older servers to newer ones. It is hoped that this problem will be resolved once the migrations are complete.
